The Igbo Association of London and Area Ontario recently gathered for its monthly meeting at the esteemed St. Marks Anglican Church on Wilton Street. On Saturday, April 27th, 2024, members convened to discuss pivotal matters concerning the progress of the association and its members.
Mr. Ken. Emetuche, the Chairman of the association, commenced the gathering by expressing gratitude to all attendees and urging them to actively engage in recruiting new members. The meeting was dedicated to addressing crucial issues aimed at enhancing the welfare and development of the association and its constituents.
A significant highlight of the discussions was the announcement of an upcoming program tailored specifically for teenagers and adolescents. Scheduled for July 2024, this event aims to attract participants from various racial backgrounds, as revealed by Mr. Victor, the program’s coordinator. It is poised to feature distinguished resource persons from diverse fields, offering valuable insights to empower and enlighten young participants towards a higher quality of life.
Furthermore, attendees were briefed on the progress of the Igbo language learning initiative. Mr. Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, head of the Igbo language community, underscored the importance of enrolling children in language programs. He emphasized that such initiatives not only foster confidence in Igbo heritage among the youth but also play a pivotal role in safeguarding the language from potential extinction.
Addressing concerns regarding the association’s welfare, Mr. Dozie, head of the Welfare and Constitution Drafting Committee, unveiled plans to establish a comprehensive constitution guiding the association’s operations. He reassured attendees that the committee’s report on the constitution would soon be available for review.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with members expressing optimism and dedication towards the collective growth and prosperity of the Igbo Committee in London and its surrounding areas.
