In a surprise move, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has relieved Dr. Bassey P. Okon of his duties as Commissioner for Special Duties, effective immediately.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, Dr. Okon is expected to hand over to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, while the Secretary to the State Government will supervise the Ministry pending the appointment of a new Commissioner.

The Governor expressed gratitude to Dr. Okon for his services to the state and wished him well in his future endeavors.

This development is part of the Governor’s efforts to reinvigorate his administration and align it with the ARISE AGENDA, a vision aimed at driving growth and development in Akwa Ibom State.

No further details have been released on the reasons behind Dr. Okon’s removal, but sources close to the government hint at a larger cabinet reshuffle in the works.
