Apapa Boat Club Holds Fishing Competition In Conjunction With Nigerian Hydrographic Society

The Hydrographer’s Fishing Competition took place at the Apapa Boat Club on Saturday 25 November 2023. The competition was organized by the Apapa Boat Club and sponsored by the Nigerian Hydrographic Society (NHS) to promote aqua tourism/aqua culture and raise awareness of the importance of sustainable fishing to coastal livelihood, recreation and the economy.

The keenly participated event which drew anglers from various clubs in Lagos was flagged off at 0630 by the President of the NHS, Rear Admiral Ayo Olugbode and the Club Commodore, Apapa Boat Club, Mr Emmanuel Ibru. The anglers returned at about 1500 with various species and sizes of fish reflecting the abundant marine biodiversity in Nigerian waters. The winning catch for the 1st prize was a 16kg Barracuda caught by Jose. There were also prizes for 2nd and 3rd place winners.

In his remarks, the NHS President pledged the continuous support of the Society for aqua tourism & aqua culture as well as sustaining efforts to curtail Illegal Unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing which is inimical to national growth & prosperity.
