Senate Frowns At NCos over inhumane act to inmates

The Senate has expressed strong disapproval toward officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service due to their reported inhumane treatment of inmates in their custody.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC, Edo North) specifically asked for a detailed breakdown of the current inmate population and security dogs, as well as information on their daily feeding routines, after series of inquiries directed at the officers by lawmakers during the 2024 budget hearing with the National Assembly joint committees on Interior held on Thursday.

On his part, Senator Ireti Kingibe, dissatisfied with the response received, raised concerns about the welfare of the inmates, and worried about the availability of medical professionals and veterinary doctors to care for both the inmates and the dogs
