The Tourism Federation has expressed its satisfaction with the impressive turnout at the 6th Edition of the Hotel Managers Conference [HMC] Africa 2024. Held at the distinguished Lagos Continental Hotel under the esteemed leadership of Chief Host, Lola Ade John, Minister of Tourism, the event attracted a notable assembly of industry leaders and participants from across the travel and tourism sector.
A message delivered by Nkereuwem Onung, President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria [FTAN], highlighted the importance of capacity building and skill enhancement in the hospitality industry. The President highlighted that hotel managers are pivotal to the hospitality sector, stating, “Your unwavering commitment to excellence is essential for delivering outstanding guest experiences. This conference provides an excellent platform for sharing best practices, learning from industry experts, and networking with peers.”
Reflecting on the growth and impact of HMC Africa, Onung commended Olugbenga Omotayo Sunday, the convener’s dedication and entrepreneurial spirit, noting that HMC has become a transformative force in the industry.
He noted that the role of the conference in setting industry standards and practices was underscored, along with a call for stronger leadership and strategic planning to advance Nigeria’s tourism sector.
Addressing current challenges, the President urged the Minister to develop a strategic plan for the newly established tourism ministry, stressing the need for significant funding and renewed focus on key issues such as visa policies, marketing strategies, and domestic tourism. The need for improved standardization and grading of hotels was also emphasized to foster professionalism in the sector.
“To all participants and delegates, remember that learning is a noble pursuit and a source of empowerment. Congratulations on being part of the 6th Edition of HMC Africa,” the President encouraged. Participants were advised to fully engage, share their insights, and apply the knowledge gained to enhance their services and properties.
The President also recommended that hotel managers consider revising rack rates for tour operators and consultants as part of a sustainable economic approach. He expressed gratitude to the General Manager of Lagos Continental and suggested that the convener thoughtfully consider rotating future conferences to different locations.
