At 55, MCSS 55th Foundation And Prize – Awards Giving Day

It was another year of achievement for Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School, Lagos, as the school celebrated 55 years of existence few days ago. The programme started with celebration of Holy Mass and thanksgiving to God.

At the event, Most .Rev. Dr Alfred Adewale Martins, the proprietor of the school, who is also the Archbishop of Metropolitan See of Lagos, thanked the creator who made the special day possible. He urged the large gathering of guests, old students of the school, parents and current students to emulate the the teachings of Christ, because that was the primary essence for which the school was established, 55 years ago.

In her welcome speech, the administrator of the school, Rev. SR. Agnes Adepoju OLA, said “am indeed filled with immense joy and gratitude to God as I welcome you all to this unique and glorious celebration of the fifty-fifth (55th) Anniversary of our Foundation’s Day.

“This is a special occasion where we come together to thank God for His countless blessings and also honour outstanding achievements of some of our students in various academic activities.

The Guest speaker of the day, Dr Chioma G. Okemdinachi, recalled that the institution of 55 years, is serving it’s purpose as a beacon of education, and making a difference in this generation.

The prize giving ceremony saw presentation of prizes to students from JSS to SSS level, for outstanding academic performance. Owuye Faheezah Oluwakemi Overall best female candidate in Nigeria for NECO Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)2023, received full scholarship to complete her secondary school. Awards were also given to teachers, for their outstanding performances, with cultural group, showcasing different culture and dance steps as side attractions of the event.

Another highlight of the day was the unveiling and launching of Landers Periscope magazine led by the Chief launcher of the day, Mrs Tokunboh Ajila Jakande, followed by the PTA Chairman, Mr Kola Adepoju, Chairperson of the day, Mrs Mercy George Igbafe, Mrs Chioma G. Okemdinachi and the Landers association amongst others. Between them, the launch was a success.

Mrs Idowu Alaba the Assistant PTA chairman said, “Maryland comprehensive secondary school is known for qualitative education, At 55, it is an epoch making event. Aside education, the school is known for discipline and spiritual formation, that is why the students excel.

Mr Alfred Adekola Adepoju the PTA chairman and also a parent shared his own side that in terms of academics, the school has a good track record.
